About this tool
Compression redraws each page as an optimised image at the quality you choose, which shrinks scanned documents and photo-heavy PDFs the most. Text in the result is no longer selectable, so keep the original for editing and use the compressed copy for uploads.
How to use it
- Choose your PDF.
- Pick a compression level, or choose 'Aim for a file size' and enter the KB limit your portal allows.
- Press Compress PDF. The smaller file downloads automatically, with the size saved shown below.
Questions
How small can a PDF get?
Scanned forms and photo PDFs often shrink by 60 to 90%. Text-only PDFs made in Word are already small and may not shrink; the tool tells you if the result is larger and keeps your original.
Which quality should I pick?
Balanced suits most forms and certificates. Use Smallest for strict upload limits such as 200 KB or 500 KB, and High when the PDF will be printed.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is read and rebuilt inside your browser, so it is safe for ID proofs and bank statements.
