Runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent anywhere.

About this tool

Paste or open your sitemap file. The validator checks it against the sitemaps.org protocol and Google's limits, lists every URL it found, and explains each problem in plain words.

How to use it

  1. Open your sitemap (usually yoursite.com/sitemap.xml), copy it and paste it here, or open the file.
  2. Read the summary and the list of problems.
  3. Fix the entries in your CMS or sitemap plugin and validate again.

Questions

How many URLs can one sitemap have?

Up to 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed. Larger sites split URLs across several sitemaps and list them in a sitemap index file.

Does Google use priority and changefreq?

Google ignores both. It does use lastmod when it is consistently accurate, so only update it when the page content really changes.

Must sitemap URLs be absolute?

Yes. Each loc must be a full URL including https:// and the domain, and it should match the canonical version of the page.
