About this tool

These tags control the title, description and image shown when your link is shared. Use a 1200 × 630 image for the best results everywhere.

Controlling how your links look when shared

When someone shares your page on WhatsApp, Facebook, LinkedIn, X or Slack, the platform builds a preview card with a title, a short description and an image. Open Graph tags tell those platforms exactly what to show. Without them, they guess, often picking a random image or an unhelpful line of text. A good preview makes your link look trustworthy and noticeably increases how often people tap it.

This generator creates the Open Graph tags along with Twitter card tags, and shows a preview so you can judge the result before publishing. Use an image of 1200 by 630 pixels, which displays well across almost every platform. Keep important text and logos away from the edges, since some apps crop the image to a square or a narrower shape. A short, clear title and a description that explains the benefit of the page work better than repeating your site name.

Previews are cached, which explains a common frustration. If you change the tags after a link has already been shared, WhatsApp and other apps may keep showing the old title or image for some time. Platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn provide debugging tools that let you refresh their copy. When testing in messaging apps, adding a harmless parameter to the end of the URL forces a fresh preview. Use absolute URLs, starting with https, for the page and the image, since relative paths often fail. Each important page, such as products and articles, deserves its own tags rather than one generic set across the whole site. Copy the tags into the head section of your page.

How to use it

  1. Adjust the settings.
  2. Check the live preview.
  3. Copy the generated code into your page or stylesheet.

Questions

Why does WhatsApp show an old preview?

WhatsApp and other apps cache previews. Add a query string like ?v=2 to the shared URL to force a fresh one.

What image size should I use?

1200 × 630 pixels, under 1 MB, in JPG or PNG.
