About this tool
WebP is usually 25–35% smaller than JPEG at similar quality. When converting a transparent PNG to JPG, choose the background colour for the transparent areas.
Choosing the right image format
Image formats are not interchangeable, and choosing the right one can make files smaller, sharper or more compatible. JPG is ideal for photographs because it compresses natural scenes efficiently, but it does not support transparency and can blur sharp edges. PNG keeps every detail and supports transparent backgrounds, which makes it best for logos, screenshots, icons and graphics with text, though photo files become large. WebP combines the strengths of both, producing smaller files with optional transparency, and is supported by all modern browsers.
This converter switches between JPG, PNG and WebP in one step and can process several images at once. When converting to JPG or WebP, the quality slider lets you balance file size against detail. Converting a transparent PNG to JPG needs a background colour, since JPG cannot store transparent areas, and you can choose it to match the page or document where the image will appear.
A few rules of thumb help. Use WebP for website images where you control the page, since it usually saves a quarter to a third of the size compared with JPG. Use JPG for photos you need to email or upload to forms that may not accept WebP. Use PNG for screenshots and graphics with crisp lines or text. Converting a JPG to PNG will not improve its quality; it only makes the file bigger. Photos from iPhones are often saved as HEIC, which many browsers cannot read directly, so export them as JPG from your phone first if the converter cannot open them. Everything runs on your device.

Questions
Can I convert HEIC photos?
Safari can open HEIC directly; most other browsers cannot. On iPhone you can also set Camera to 'Most Compatible' to save JPGs.
What happens to transparency in JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick.
