About this tool
Start with a square image at least 512 × 512 pixels. You get every size browsers and phones ask for, plus the exact tags for your <head>.
Creating favicons that look sharp everywhere
A favicon is the small icon shown in browser tabs, bookmarks, search results and on phone home screens when someone saves your site. It is one of the first things people notice, and a blurry or missing icon makes a site look unfinished. Different places ask for different sizes, from tiny tab icons to large touch icons for phones, which is why generating the full set from one image saves time.
Start with a square image at least 512 by 512 pixels, ideally a simple logo mark rather than a full logo with words. Fine details and small text disappear at 16 or 32 pixels, so bold shapes and strong contrast work best. You can add padding around the image, place it on a solid background colour, and round the corners, which helps icons look consistent on phone home screens.
The generator creates the classic favicon.ico file along with PNG versions in the common sizes, and gives you the exact HTML tags to paste into the head of your pages. Upload the files to your site's root folder, add the tags, and then check the result in a few browsers and on a phone. Browsers cache favicons stubbornly, so if you replace an old one you may need to clear the cache or open the site in a private window to see the change. Search engines can take some time to show a new favicon in results. Your image is processed in your browser and never uploaded, so unreleased brand assets stay private.

Questions
Which favicon files do I really need?
favicon.ico, a 180 × 180 apple-touch-icon.png, and 192 and 512 px PNGs for the web app manifest cover all current browsers.
Can I use an SVG favicon?
Yes, modern browsers support it. Keep the .ico as a fallback for older ones.
